2019 Toyota Camry, Avalon getting TRD models
“Looking at the rest of the TRD lineup, we can expect there will be some changes to the suspension, maybe wheels and tires, but not much more in the way of power.
The teaser vehicles both have sporty TRD wheels with performance tires, extended front splitters, and red brake calipers (although they’re probably just painted red, not actually changed from standard).
No image was shown of the rest of the Camry or Avalon, but we can expect extended side skirts and a splitter will round out the changes, with the possibility of a rear wing as well.”
UPDATE: Guys,
It just got worse-

Not surprised...h ave you see the upper trims on the new Camry much yet? It’s like that guy from Accounting who took a 6-month hiatus from work and suddenly discovered creatine and compression shirts. Then he comes back like nothing is any different and wonders why everyone is staring at him like a freak. Because change is supposed to be gradual.
Actually, sort of reminds from this fake ad for “Beta Force”
from a recent SNL. Slightly NSFW, not too bad:

I feel like this is the result of some poor market research:
“Would you consider buying a Camry or Avalon?”
“No”
“Why not?”
“I don’t know, they seem like old people cars. Not sporty enough.”
But what the researchers forgot to ask was:
“If we made a sportier version would you buy one?”
“Still no.”
That being said, I don't hate it. It's just unnecessary.

We’re not boring, we swear! Not overcompensating either! These are bonafide sports sedans! With styling that will be considered classic in 30 years, not overdone at all! We’re not boring!

Yes, I have had the misfortune of driving behind the over-styled “Quad Exhausts=SPORTY” XSE trying too hard to look cool, several times

Say it with me: Corolla XRS TRD

A reminder - the traverse and equinox “Redline” packages are a thing.

The phonies that buy them.

Interesting .... 7.1 Second Corrolla in 2004 is pretty damn impressive, and it had a manual I see.

It’s not an objectively a bad design, it’s just too much. Rear diffuser? Seriously? And those “gills” drive me nuts, like they wanted to be a Stinger, but put them in the rear instead.
I bet you anything that the dealer sticker and plate never leave that car, and the owner trades it within 3 years....
just as soon as she realizes how much 19" tires cost to replace :D

Oh Toyota are not the only offenders guilty of this. Although I will say the Redline packages look really good on the Trucks and Camaro

I knew someone who genuinely thought a Corrola S was faster than the regular one because of some cladding, badging and spoiler.

The buyer of a TRD Avalon will really be hoping to impress all the single ladies.

Oh definitely. They're not bad on the Cruze either.

A 2003 Corrola S is still the worst driving car I’ve ever driven (granted I didn’t bother even checking out the base model).

Pretty sure i t ONLY had a manual. It had the Lotus engine (yeah, I know, different cylinder head) that made 170-180 HP and reved up to 8k and a much stiffer chassis and harder suspension. All while looking like a Corolla. Factory sleeper stuff, right there.

I think Toyota designers took that up as a Challenge, after seeing Lexus.

The y should make a Daylight version in yellow or bight orange to counteract the stupidity that its a murdered out car.

Considering Dodge made a 5.8 sec Spirit in 1991, I find it quite disappointing......

I like my 2011 Camry and the 2005 Corolla before it especially the reliability but would like a faster more performance oriented one similar to the Accord Sport

Special editions are one of the perks that sells more cars. A Camry TRD is the car for the ‘I might be a car guy’ type of car guy.

Glad I wasn’t at 2017 SEMA else I would have puked all over the floor seeing those riced out Camrys.

I drove a brand new manual Camry in 2014... It was horrible. Toyota’s lazy drive by wire throttle makes smooth shifts impossible.
![]() 11/02/2018 at 13:10 |

The base model drives exactly the same. The Corolla S was just side skirts and a red “S” badge. Literally.
